Hope you are all safe and sound!
Let’s start with the latest article; attaching VS Code Debugger from the web client.
The feature we were waiting for a long is now available with the Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 Wave 2 release V23. This will allow us to open the VS code directly from the Business central Web client for a specific user on Production or Sandbox Environment.
Basically, This feature is creating a simple matching project of AL extension to that environment with configuration files which will be added to that environment. This will make the debugging process very effortless.
There are two ways to troubleshoot from web client directly as below:
Explore page in visual studio code
In the inspection tab of any page you will get the link “Explore Page in Visual Studio Code”
The Second possible option is to start a debugging session from the Help and Support page:
By clicking on either of the two links the browser will ask you to open Visual studio code directly from the business central cloud version. Where you will need to click on the “Open visual studio code”.
This will Open a Visual Studio Code if it’s already installed in your system. This feature Automatically Generates an AL project with basic folder structure. It will ask you for the type of debugging as snapshot debugging or Regular debugging.
After selecting that it will add configuration into the AL project to initialize the debugging.
It will start the debugging process as usual that will stop on an error that can be occur in current session for which we started the inspection. And for snapshot debugging it will debug the process and will store the snapshots which we can trace later.
This is how this process is very useful in inspection and debugging.
We hope this write up will help you all!
